"Resilience in the face of adversity is the journey Dwalah Fisher takes you on in “Cancer Coached Me.” You will laugh and cry as you travel through the book with Dwalah as she copes with the preserving over her greatest challenge cancer. However, it’s the vulnerability revealed in chapter four which awakens the soul of anyone struggling with walking through faith while facing insurmountable challenges. Yet, support is provided in chapters 5, 6, &7 when the educator appears, and Dr. Fisher provides a lecture on medical facts and provides resources to educate the reader. Although, my favorite chapters are 12. Grateful, Grateful, Grateful- Favor Ain’t Fair and 13. Love Forward. It’s in those chapters that we celebrate her journey, find inspiration to overcome our personal trials, and are motivated to re-define adversity as a will to overcome.I highly recommend this book, not just because Dr. Fisher is my mentor, but because this book provides hope, strength, and guidance. It’s through her words that you will find your strength, determination, and peace. It’s an awe-inspiring read."
Dr. Courtney Flowers, Professor Texas Southern University

About Dwalah: Meet the Mind Behind the Journey
Hi, I’m Dr. Dwalah Fisher. I was born in Houston, Texas, and was raised by my mother and grandparents in Missouri City, Texas. My passion for sports led me through high school, but knee surgeries ended my hopes for a basketball scholarship. Undeterred, I joined Texas Southern University (TSU) as a walk-on volleyball player at 17, and it quickly became my NEW home.
At TSU, I earned multiple degrees and had the chance to work in various roles, from coach to professor. Battling cancer was a significant challenge, but it taught me resilience and the value of continuous learning. I’m now looking forward to the future with excitement, knowing that my best is yet to come.
